We begin our exploration with a visit to the impressive Trongsa Dzong, built in 1648, the largest fortress in Bhutan and the ancestral home of the royal family. The first and second kings ruled from this grand stronghold, and all Bhutanese monarchs held the title of Trongsa Penlop (Governor) before ascending the throne. Towering above the city is the Ta Dzong, a former watchtower now being transformed into a museum dedicated to the legacy of Bhutan’s monarchy. After immersing ourselves in Trongsa’s past, we continue our journey toward Bumthang, a scenic 2-hour drive.The road ascends steeply through dense forests to the Yutong La Pass (3,400 m/11,155 ft), before descending into the lush Chumey Valley. Sightseeing in and around Bumthang Bumthang Valley often considered the spiritual heartland of Bhutan, is a stunning region made up of four interconnected valleys such as Chumey, Choekhor, Tang, and Ura, where the altitude ranges from 2,600 to 4,000 meters. This sacred region is home to some of the kingdom’s most revered temples and monasteries, offering a deeply enriching cultural experience. Our exploration today begins with a sightseieng to Jakar Dzong, a majestic fortress built in 1667. We then visit Jambay Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s oldest temples, founded in the 7th century by the Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo. Next, we journey to Kurje Lhakhang, where Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava), meditated and left his body imprint on a rock, an important spiritual site for pilgrims. Another key highlight is Tamshing Lhakhang, founded in 1501 by Terton Pema Lingpa, one of Bhutan’s greatest spiritual masters. The temple houses ancient and sacred murals including depictions of 1,000 Buddhas and 21 Taras  (female form of Buddhisattvas) in Bhutan. To immerse in local life, we visit a traditional Bhutanese farmhouse and observe age-old customs and rural warm hospitality. Full-day excursion to Taktsang Monastery/ Tigers Nest Monastery After an early breakfast, we embark on Bhutan’s most iconic adventure, the memorable hike to Taktsang Monastery, famously known as the Tiger’s Nest. This 5–6 hour round-trip journey takes us through beautiful pine and rhododendron forests, offering fresh mountain air and serene natural surroundings. Along the way, we pause at a traditional cafeteria, perfectly situated to provide breathtaking views of the monastery. We then continue our hike along the scenic trail until the awe-inspiring Taktsang Monastery comes into view perched at a sheer Cliffside which is 900 meters above the Paro Valley floor. Built in the 1600s, this sacred site is believed to be where Guru Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche) who brought Buddhism to Bhutan, landed on the back of a flying tigress and meditated for three months.
